How to Make the Holidays Less Stressful (and enjoy them more!)

The holidays don’t have to be stressful. In just six steps, you can wash away the stress and start feeling good about how you want to spend these special days.

Grab a pen and paper, some coffee, and then sit down and start reading!

  1. Brain dump all of your holiday to dos. Write down all of your holiday to dos. Don’t worry about making a nice, categorized list, just write everything down as soon as it pops into your head.
  2. Get clear on what the holidays mean to you. What truly matters to you during this time? What do you want this holiday season to feel like? These questions will help you on the next steps!
  3. Prioritize what works best for you and your family. Keeping in mind what matters the most to you during the holidays, circle the things that you want to prioritize on your to do list.
  4. Let go of the high expectations. Keeping in mind how you want to feel during the holidays, cross off the things that you don’t truly want to do but feel like you “should.” Ex: Doing Christmas cards, going to extra Christmas parties, buying extra gifts, events, etc.
  5. Be realistic about where you are in life. If you don’t have extra time, energy, or money to do some of the things you want to, be realistic about it! You don’t ‘want to feel weighed down after the holidays because you overdid it. Cross off any unrealistic to dos.
  6. Find gratitude and contentment with the choices you make. The holidays look different for everyone. You are choosing to focus on what works the best for you and your family, and that’s truly what matters! If you start feeling overwhelmed, cross some more things off your to do list and be grateful that you get to create a simple, meaningful holiday season!

Now that you went over these 6 steps, I hope you feel a relief and calm about how this holiday season will go.
